A man has been arrested for allegedly molesting his 15-year-old niece while she was asleep at his home in the Tampin district early last Sunday morning.
Tampin District Police Chief, Superintendent Amiruddien Sariman, said the 58-year-old suspect was detained at around 10:30 pm last night following a police report by the teenage girl.
“The victim, a 15-year-old girl, reported that she was sexually assaulted by her own uncle while she was asleep at home at approximately 3 am on 12 October,” he said.
Following the report, Tampin police officers apprehended the suspect at the roadside in Kampung Baru to assist in the investigation.
A remand application has been filed under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code to allow further investigation. The suspect has been remanded for seven days until 21 October.
The case is being investigated under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017. If convicted, the suspect could face up to 20 years in prison and may also be sentenced to caning.
