A woman birdwatching yesterday (November 12) along the Toyohira River in Shiroishi Ward, Sapporo, Japan, was shocked to see a person floating face-down in the river and immediately called the authorities. Police recovered the body, which was already deceased, unclothed, and initially estimated to be a woman between 60 and 80 years old.
According to Hokkaido Shimbun UHB, the incident occurred around 1:00 p.m. The birdwatcher had been enjoying a leisurely afternoon when she spotted the body floating in the river and quickly reported it to police.
Authorities arrived at the scene and used a helicopter to lift the person from the water. The body was confirmed dead on site, with no clothing or personal belongings. There were no visible injuries, and investigators are working to confirm the woman’s identity and determine whether her death involves any foul play.
