The police have apprehended a man suspected of slapping a Form One student during an incident at a food outlet within the Pasar Seni LRT Station last Tuesday. Dang Wangi District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Sazalee Adam, confirmed that the 48-year-old unemployed suspect was taken into custody by a police team. The arrest took place along Jalan Masjid India at approximately 3.40 pm today, following investigations into the physical altercation.
During the interrogation process, the suspect admitted to striking the victim’s face with enough force to cause the teenager to fall. The man claimed he acted out of sudden anger because the boy was allegedly picking his nose while standing next to him in the queue. In conjunction with the arrest, authorities also seized the clothing believed to have been worn by the suspect during the encounter, which included a white shirt and black trousers.
Further background checks revealed that the suspect has a prior criminal record involving a narcotics case. The current investigation is being conducted under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt and Section 506 of the same code for criminal intimidation. Additionally, the case is being scrutinised under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 due to the widespread circulation of the incident’s footage on social media platforms.
The victim, identified as 13-year-old Farhan Nasir Muhammad Isa, sustained injuries from the unexpected assault. Recalling the event, the teenager explained that he had entered the bakery to purchase bread and proceeded directly to the counter upon seeing that there was no queue. He reported being suddenly slapped by the stranger without any prior provocation or interaction, leading to the subsequent police report.
This arrest highlights the commitment of the Royal Malaysia Police to addressing public disturbances and acts of violence with urgency. Assistant Commissioner Sazalee Adam reiterated that the authorities will not compromise on individuals who take the law into their own hands or engage in criminal intimidation. The public is advised to remain calm and report any suspicious or aggressive behaviour to the nearest police station to maintain safety in public transport hubs.
