A man believed to be a student at a higher education institution was found dead in a drain near his home at Taman Menglembu Impiana Adril in Ipoh here on Sunday.
The victim was discovered about 30 metres from his residence after a neighbour noticed something unusual while parking his vehicle near the location at around 11.20am.
A witness, identified only as Mani, 58, said he initially thought his car had hit a small object while manoeuvring his vehicle.
“I got out of the car to check and saw what looked like a torchlight. That was when I realised there was a man lying in the drain with blood on his face,” he told reporters at the scene.
Mani said he immediately sought help from a friend to contact the police after discovering the victim.
Incidents involving sudden deaths in residential areas often draw concern from nearby residents, who may only become aware of the situation after an unexpected discovery.
Meanwhile, Ipoh District Police Chief Muhammad Najib Hamzah confirmed the incident.
He said the victim’s body was transported to Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun for a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the case.
