The Ministry of Transport (MOT) has clarified that outstanding traffic summonses have no impact on whether a motorist qualifies for the BUDI95 petrol subsidy, countering recent misleading media reports.
In a statement, the ministry said the two systems operate independently, emphasising that “they are not the same matter and do not have any automatic direct connection.”
To apply for or maintain eligibility for the subsidy, applicants only need to meet two core requirements:
- Be a Malaysian citizen, verified through MyKad.
- Hold a valid driving licence — meaning the licence is active or has expired for no more than three years.
MOT also urged Malaysians to continue obeying traffic laws to ensure road safety for all users.
