Viral Object In Sarawak May Be Space Debris, Says MOSTI

Date:

The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) has confirmed receiving initial information regarding the sighting of a suspected space debris object in the skies over Sarawak on April 7.

In a statement, MOSTI said no official reports have been lodged so far regarding the discovery of any debris on land or in nearby waters.

Preliminary analysis of a viral video suggests the object could potentially be part of space debris, although further verification is still underway.

The ministry added that monitoring efforts are being actively carried out by the Space Regulator Division (BPAngkasa) in collaboration with the Malaysian Space Agency (MYSA).

Authorities have advised members of the public not to touch any suspicious objects and to report sightings immediately to the relevant authorities.

Information can be channelled through the emergency hotline 999 or by contacting BPAngkasa at 03-8885 8685 or via email at bpadg@mosti.gov.my.
