Police have confirmed that a viral video circulating today, showing the arrest of a man in front of a motorcycle accessories shop along Jalan Tunku Putra, is connected to a crime prevention patrol operation.
Kulim district deputy police chief Tengku Mohd Faisal Tengku Yeng said the 29-second clip, widely shared on Facebook, depicts an incident involving police personnel and a suspect. In the footage, the man is seen being pulled off his motorcycle before falling, after which his head was stepped on by an officer.
Preliminary investigations found that the incident occurred at around 11am when officers were conducting a patrol in the Jalan Sungai Ular area. During the attempt to detain the suspect, a struggle broke out as he resisted arrest by kicking a police motorcycle and fleeing the scene.
The suspect reportedly rode his motorcycle recklessly, going against traffic flow and endangering other road users. However, officers later tracked him down and successfully apprehended him outside a motorcycle accessories shop on Jalan Tunku Putra shortly after the chase.
A search of the 32-year-old suspect’s motorcycle led to the discovery of two transparent plastic packets believed to contain boiled ketum leaf liquid. He was subsequently taken to the police station for further action.
Police also confirmed that a preliminary urine test returned positive for methamphetamine. Investigations have been opened under Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952, Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, and Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
The suspect is expected to be brought before the Kulim Magistrate’s Court for a remand application. Authorities believe he was under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident, noting that his reckless riding posed a significant risk to public safety.
Police have urged the public not to speculate or spread misinformation regarding the case as investigations continue.
