A viral video from Shangqiu, Henan province, claiming that a pregnant woman ended her pregnancy after a dispute with her husband over fruit purchases has been confirmed by platform checks to be staged content.
In the original widely circulated story, a woman surnamed Gu, who was reportedly three months pregnant, allegedly used around 200 yuan of her personal savings to buy fruit to ease severe morning sickness. She was said to have been harshly criticised by her husband over the spending, which escalated into verbal abuse and physical pushing.
The viral narrative further claimed that the woman later chose to terminate her pregnancy at around 12 weeks and filed for divorce, citing emotional distress and a lack of support in the marriage. The story sparked widespread discussion online, with many netizens criticising domestic financial control and emotional neglect in relationships.
However, according to later verification by platform authorities and media checks, the content was found to be a scripted or staged video that was not clearly labelled as fictional. The account involved reportedly published dramatized scenarios as real events, which was assessed to have misled audiences and stirred emotional reactions.
Following the findings, the platform has taken action against the account, including restricting its activity. The case has also reignited discussions on the spread of fabricated online content and the responsibility of creators to clearly label dramatized material.
