Viral Video Shows Young Child Navigating Right Lane Of Busy Road On Scooter

Date:

A heart-stopping incident involving a young child riding a scooter on a major road in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah went viral on social media yesterday, sparking widespread concern among the public. The child was spotted navigating a scooter along the right lane of Jalan UMS, near the 1 Sulaman area heading towards Indah Permai. Several motorists were forced to decelerate and manoeuvre cautiously to avoid a potential tragedy as the child moved amidst heavy afternoon traffic.

The dangerous situation was brought to a safe conclusion when a vigilant food delivery rider intervened. Video footage shared on the social media platform X shows the rider approaching the child and successfully ushering them to the safety of the roadside. The quick actions of the motorcyclist and the alertness of other drivers, who managed to slow down in time, prevented what could have been a fatal accident on the busy stretch.

Public reaction to the footage has been a mixture of alarm and speculation regarding the child’s guardians. Many social media users questioned the whereabouts of the parents, with some expressing disbelief at how a child of that age could end up on a high-speed highway. One user, identified as Disaster Level, questioned if the child had been accidentally left behind, while others suggested the child may have wandered off from a nearby residential area without supervision.

Conversely, some netizens urged the public to withhold harsh judgment until the full circumstances are known. A user named Nasa pointed out that the child might have specific developmental needs or could have slipped out of the house unnoticed while parents were occupied. Another observer, Yoh Yeok, estimated the child to be in standard three or four and suggested they might have become disoriented and panicked after accidentally entering the main road.

The incident has highlighted the ongoing importance of parental supervision and road safety awareness within residential zones adjacent to major highways. Local authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the identity of the child or whether any action will be taken. However, the community has united in praising the delivery rider and the surrounding motorists for their collective effort in ensuring the child’s safety during the frightening ordeal.
