Wife Jailed 7 Years After Slashing Husband’s Genitals 50 Times

Date:

A South Korean woman was sentenced to seven years in prison after she cut and slashed her husband’s genitals nearly 50 times in a brutal attack, allegedly driven by rage over his suspected infidelity.

According to Must Share News, the 58-year-old woman planned the assault together with her daughter and son-in-law after obtaining evidence that her husband was having an affair. The incident occurred on August 1, 2024, in Hwado-myeon, Ganghwa Island, Incheon.

Court records revealed that the 50-year-old victim had been drinking alone at a café before falling asleep. While he was unconscious, his son-in-law entered the premises and restrained him using ropes and industrial tape.

The accused then carried out the attack, cutting off the man’s genitals and slashing him approximately 50 times with a sharp weapon. To ensure permanent injury, the severed body part was later disposed of in the café’s toilet.

Emergency responders later discovered the victim and rushed him to hospital. He survived following surgery but suffered severe physical injuries and psychological trauma.

Prosecutors initially sought a conviction for attempted murder, requesting a 15-year prison sentence for the wife and seven years for the son-in-law, citing the extreme violence of the attack.

However, the Incheon District Court acquitted both defendants of attempted murder and instead convicted them of causing grievous bodily harm.

The court sentenced the son-in-law to four years in prison for assisting in the assault, while the victim’s daughter was fined three million won (approximately RM8,000) for indirect involvement after hiring a private investigator to track her father.

Throughout the investigation, the woman maintained that her intention was to permanently disable her husband rather than to kill him.

Despite the severity of his injuries, the victim reached a formal settlement with his wife and formally requested the court to show leniency in sentencing.

Under South Korean law, a victim’s request for a lighter sentence is considered an important mitigating factor that may influence the court’s final decision.
