Woman, 25, Admits Fabricating Rape Report After Being Scolded for Returning Home Late

Date:

A 25-year-old woman who claimed she had been raped by an e-hailing driver allegedly fabricated the story after being reprimanded by her family for arriving home late.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner M. Kumarasan said the unemployed woman initially reported that she had been raped and forced into unnatural sexual acts inside an e-hailing vehicle along Jalan Pulai Perdana, Kangkar Pulai.

“She lodged the report at 10.27am yesterday, claiming the incident occurred at 8.30pm the night before,” he said.

However, investigations revealed the allegations were false and made to avoid further scolding from her family.

Police have recorded her statement and are continuing their probe.

Kumarasan cautioned the public against making false reports, noting that it diverts critical resources away from genuine victims who need assistance.

He reminded that lodging a false report is an offence under Section 182 of the Penal Code, punishable by up to six months’ imprisonment, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both
