Woman Accused of Driving Family Into Lake, Father and Son Found Dead

Date:

Authorities in Ohio are investigating a tragic incident in which a woman allegedly drove a golf cart with her children into Atwood Lake, resulting in the deaths of her 45-year-old husband, Marcus J. Miller, and their four-year-old son, Vincen.

The woman, whose identity has not been released, reportedly suffers from a “spiritual delusion” and allegedly told a witness that she had “given her son to the Lord.” Police responded to the scene on Saturday, August 23, after the golf cart crash involving the woman and three of her other children, who managed to escape unharmed.

The family, who are Amish, had been visiting the lake for the weekend. Authorities said the crash appeared intentional, prompting concern for the well-being of the father and the young son. Divers and sonar-equipped boats recovered Vincen’s body the same day, and Marcus Miller’s body was found the following morning near the same dock.

“The crash into the water was evidently intentional,” the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. “The three other children—two 18-year-old sons and a 15-year-old daughter—escaped safely.”

Police noted that the woman made concerning statements about conversing with God during the rescue, raising further questions about her mental health. She is currently receiving treatment, and an autopsy is underway. No motives have been confirmed, and the Sheriff’s Office has not released any charges or pleas.

The incident has left the Amish community in shock as authorities continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
