Police have confirmed that the woman who went viral on social media for allegedly living at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 for nearly a year is a Malaysian citizen with mental health issues.
The case drew widespread attention after videos circulated online showing the woman arguing with airport visitors, while an elderly individual was seen trying to calm her down. She was initially believed to be a foreign national.
According to Sinar Harian, Deputy KLIA District Police Chief Superintendent Albany Hamzah said authorities arrested the woman on December 18 following reports of disturbances at the airport.
“Initial examinations found that the woman is a local citizen and is in possession of a mental health card. Further action was taken by referring her to Kajang Hospital,” he said.
Superintendent Albany added that the woman has since been transferred to the hospital for further assessment and treatment.
At this stage, the authorities have not confirmed how long the woman had been staying at KLIA or the reasons behind her prolonged presence at the terminal. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
