Before getting married, it’s important to pay attention to a partner’s money mindset—it can reveal a lot about their true character.
Recently, a woman in Malaysia sparked online discussion after breaking up with her boyfriend when she discovered he was only willing to give her RM200 per month after marriage.
The man explained that he wanted to live a frugal life after marriage, keeping things simple and spending as little as possible. However, the woman felt his approach was overly stingy, making her feel undervalued and insecure about their future together.
According to the woman, her ex-boyfriend consistently insisted on extreme frugality:
- He refused to buy an engagement ring.
- He asked for a very low dowry.
- He even wanted her to buy her own wedding dress, claiming he “wouldn’t know how to choose.”
On top of that, he planned to give her only RM200 per month for living expenses, believing it would be enough for her daily needs.
He also refused to buy a new car, insisting his old Proton Wira was still usable, and frequently made her pay for dates, saying it “wasn’t his responsibility yet.” This behavior left the woman disappointed and disheartened.
In the end, she concluded that his actions weren’t about saving money—they showed a lack of responsibility and care, leaving her feeling unsafe and unable to see a future together. She decided to end the relationship and start anew.
