Woman Carrying Baby Allegedly Uses Fake QR Receipts To Scam Traders

Date:

Residents in Kuala Ketil, Tikam Batu, Padang Menora and Tasek Gelugor have been urged to be extra cautious when accepting QR code or online transfer payments following a scam involving fake payment receipts.

According to a post shared by a Sungai Petani resident on Threads, a woman allegedly showed payment receipts claiming that transactions had been completed, even though no money was actually transferred into the recipient’s account.

The incident is believed to have affected several victims, including petrol station employees who reportedly suffered losses amounting to hundreds of ringgit.

“Do not rely solely on receipts. Make sure the money has actually been credited into the account before handing over any goods,” a resident warned.

Closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from one of the affected premises showed the woman carrying a baby while purchasing a prepaid top-up PIN. She was seen pretending to scan the QR code provided by the shop worker and entering a payment amount on her mobile phone.

The video quickly gained traction online, with many users condemning the woman’s actions.

“She used her child to gain sympathy. Her intentions were clearly to scam,” commented @Sisterr99.

Another user, @Aikkamyy_, praised the shop owner for blurring the suspect’s face in the footage.

“The way she behaved showed she was being cautious. This is the risk of accepting QR payments. Traders must always verify that the money has been received before handing over items,” Sam wrote.Woman Carrying Baby Allegedly Uses Fake QR Receipts To Scam Traders
