A 37-year-old woman was discovered dead in the driver’s seat of a locked vehicle filled with various belongings at a petrol station in Paya Terubong on Sunday night.
Penang director of the Jabatan Bomba dan Penyelamat Malaysia (JBPM), Mohamad Shoki Hamzah, said the department received an emergency call via the MERS 999 system at 7.48pm requesting assistance to unlock the car.
A fire engine from the Balai Bomba dan Penyelamat Paya Terubong, located approximately three kilometres from the scene, arrived at 8.03pm.
“The Operations Response Team forced open the door of a Perodua Myvi using special equipment and found a woman unconscious inside the vehicle.
“The victim was later pronounced dead at the scene by personnel from the Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia who were also present,” he said when contacted on Monday.
The woman’s body was subsequently handed over to the Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM) for further investigation.
Shoki added that the operation was led by a commander and involved eight personnel, including a supervising officer. No other senior officers were reported to be at the location.
The operation, which deployed one LFRT P1-09 PTG fire engine and one EMRS PTG P2-03 unit, was fully concluded at 8.43pm after firefighters ensured there were no additional hazards at the scene.
