A Thai woman and her friend, who was reportedly in unrequited love with her, are alleged to have plotted the killing of her ex-boyfriend on the M6 motorway in Nakhon Ratchasima on March 28. The woman later died by suicide while attempting to flee police.
The victim, 30-year-old Suppakorn “Golf” Traiphopklang, was found dead on the motorway with multiple gunshot wounds. CCTV footage reviewed by police showed two suspects fleeing the scene in a white Mitsubishi Pajero SUV.
Investigators identified the suspects as 28-year-old Kueakool Sombat and 28-year-old Chomphunuch Huajaiphet. Kueakool was arrested at his home in Lop Buri on April 1, where he later implicated Chomphunuch as his close associate.
During questioning, Kueakool admitted to shooting the victim four times but claimed the attack was orchestrated by Chomphunuch, who was the victim’s ex-girlfriend.
He alleged that Chomphunuch could not accept the end of her relationship with Golf and was upset after he moved on with a new partner. She reportedly first asked Kueakool to hire a hitman for 35,000 baht (approximately RM4,300), before he agreed to carry out the shooting himself.
Authorities said the vehicle and firearm used in the incident belonged to Kueakool’s father. On the day of the attack, the pair allegedly trailed the victim’s car along the motorway before Chomphunuch rammed it, forcing him to stop.
After the crash, Kueakool said he shot the victim twice when he stepped out of the vehicle, causing him to fall on the road. He further claimed that Chomphunuch instructed him to fire two additional shots before they fled the scene.
He also told police that Chomphunuch later stopped the vehicle and expressed her intention to take her own life before jumping from the motorway. Her body was later found beneath the elevated roadway on April 2 after being located at the scene indicated by investigators.
Police added that Kueakool is currently being monitored in custody due to his fragile mental state following the incident.
