A woman sustained back and ankle injuries after falling into an uncovered drain at the Federal Building yesterday, the Civil Defence Force (APM) reported.

The incident occurred around 1 pm when the woman, who was undergoing industrial training at a government office, went out to buy food and accidentally fell into a 1.5‑metre‑deep drain.

District Civil Defence officer Sulaiman Salama said members of the public at the scene immediately alerted the APM. A team was dispatched and safely extricated the woman using specialized equipment.

“The victim is in stable condition but reported pain in her back and an injury to her right ankle. Initial emergency treatment was administered before she was taken to Duchess of Kent Hospital for further care,” Sulaiman said.
