An elderly woman was killed after the car she was travelling in crashed into a road divider at Batu 6.
The victim, identified as 71-year-old Siti Badariah Abdullah, was pronounced dead at the scene after suffering severe injuries.
A Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department Operations Centre spokesperson said the department received an emergency call at 3.32pm and deployed five personnel from the Kota Sentosa Fire and Rescue Station to the location, about three kilometres away.
The incident involved a single vehicle, a Proton Saga, which struck a road divider. Three people were in the car at the time of the crash.
Firefighters found the front-seat passenger unconscious and trapped inside the vehicle, while the driver, also 71, and another female passenger aged 35 had managed to exit the car.
Rescue personnel extricated the victim, but Health Ministry officials later confirmed she had died at the scene.
The deceased was handed over to the police for further investigation. The driver and the other passenger, who sustained injuries, were taken to Sarawak General Hospital for treatment.
