Police arrested two men, including a teenager, less than six hours after they allegedly robbed an elderly woman at her home in Felda Palong 8 on Monday.
A CCTV recording of the incident, which has since gone viral on social media, shows one of the suspects entering the victim’s house while brandishing a knife.
Jempol District Police Chief, Superintendent Norhisham Mustapar, said the masked suspect, dressed in black and armed with a knife, broke into the victim’s house at around 6:45 a.m.
“The suspect pointed the knife at the 68-year-old woman and demanded that she reveal where she kept her money. The victim told him there was no cash in the house, but the suspect proceeded to ransack her bedroom,” he said in a statement on Thursday.
As the suspect was searching through the bedroom, the victim managed to escape through the back door and sought help from her neighbours, who immediately contacted the police and local villagers.
By the time officers arrived at the scene, the suspect had fled. The victim later discovered that two mobile phones and imitation jewellery kept in a small bag in her bedroom were missing.
Following swift police action, the two suspects, aged 30 and 17, were arrested between 10 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. around Felda Palong 8.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the 30-year-old suspect has four previous criminal records, two past drug-related offences, and is also wanted for another drug case.
Both suspects have been remanded for seven days until October 20, and the case is being investigated under Sections 395 and 397 of the Penal Code for armed gang robbery.
