A woman sustained severe burns covering about 70 per cent of her body, while two other individuals suffered minor injuries in a crash involving two vehicles along Jalan Tun Razak near The Avenue Club in Kuala Lumpur early Thursday morning.
The Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department said eight personnel together with a fire engine from the Jalan Tun Razak Fire and Rescue Station were dispatched to the scene after receiving an emergency call at 5.21am.
According to the department, the accident involved a Peugeot car driven by the woman and a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV), a Toyota Vellfire, which was carrying a driver and a passenger.
Authorities found that the Peugeot was completely destroyed in a fire following the collision. The female driver, believed to be in her 20s, was rescued by members of the public before firefighters arrived at the scene.
Firefighters managed to fully extinguish the blaze at about 5.32am. All victims were later handed over to medical personnel from the Ministry of Health Malaysia for further treatment.
Earlier, the incident had gone viral on social media after heavy traffic congestion was reported in the surrounding area following the accident.
