A routine home chore ended in tragedy for a young man after he was fatally stung by wasps at his residence. The incident is particularly heartbreaking as the victim, 29-year-old Abdul Hamid Mohd Taufek, was scheduled to marry his fiancée in just a few weeks.
According to his friend Khairul Affendi Rahim, Abdul Hamid had returned home after performing Zuhur prayers on Dec 30. While waiting for a technician to service an outdoor air conditioning unit, he opened the unit and was stung by several wasps.
Shortly after, he rushed to a neighbour’s house to report the incident but fainted within minutes. He was rushed to the Batu 14 Health Clinic, where emergency CPR was administered for 30 minutes, but unfortunately, he did not survive.
An inspection of Abdul Hamid’s home revealed a wasp nest inside the outdoor AC compressor, believed to be the source of the attack. His friend noted that Abdul Hamid had a history of sinus issues and seafood allergies, which may have worsened the effects of the venom. Post-mortem results are awaited to confirm the cause of death.
Abdul Hamid had been preparing to marry his fiancée on Jan 23 and was described by friends as a devout man actively involved in religious activities. His sudden passing has left family, friends, and the community shocked and mourning the loss of a life cut tragically short.
