A young police constable in Sepang tragically lost his life after being swept away by strong floodwaters on Friday night, just hours after buying an engagement ring for his partner.
Constable Muhammad Rahimi Amirudin, 23, who served at the Nilai District Police Headquarters, had been preparing for his merisik and engagement ceremony planned for next year. His family revealed that the ring he purchased that evening was the last item needed for the celebration.
According to mStar, Rahimi had dinner with his fiancée and her family before leaving for his night shift at 11pm. On his way to work, he encountered a flooded stretch of road. Despite being warned by nearby residents not to proceed, he attempted to drive through the area. The rising water pushed his car into a water channel, forcing him to abandon the vehicle and swim.
Residents later saw Rahimi clinging to a road sign while still in uniform, but he was eventually swept away by the current around 10.30pm. His body was found the following morning about 50 metres from where he went missing.
Rahimi was laid to rest at the Taman Purnama Muslim Cemetery in Simpang Renggam. His father expressed the family’s heartbreak that he never had the chance to fulfill his wish of getting engaged after Aidilfitri next year.
