Youth Age Limit Cut to 30, Support Programs for Older Youth Remain

Date:

All government assistance for individuals aged 30 and above will continue despite the youth age limit being lowered to 30, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.

Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh said the Cabinet had approved a memorandum on the Coordination of Government Support and Assistance for Youth Post-Enforcement of the Lowered Age Limit, presented by the ministry last Friday.

She emphasized that even those who will no longer be classified as youth will still be eligible for support. Programs such as grants from the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives and special agricultural grants for young farmers will remain available.

“The assistance will continue to reach them. They can still apply for various funds and grants intended for young people aged 30 and above,” Hannah Yeoh said in response to a supplementary question from Syahredzan Johan (PH-Bangi).

The reduction of the youth age limit to 30 comes following amendments to the Youth Societies and Youth Development Act 2019, which will take effect on January 1.
