Zamri Vinoth And Tamim Dahri Flee To Thailand Amid Police Investigations

Date:

The police have confirmed that independent preacher Zamri Vinoth and activist Tamim Dahri, who are subjects of separate investigations, have fled to Thailand.

Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail, Inspector-General of Police, said authorities are actively working to locate the two with assistance from Thai officials.

Zamri is being investigated over statements made at a rally on 7 February, with the case referred to the Attorney General’s Chambers. Charges are expected under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code for remarks likely to cause public alarm.

A separate probe against Zamri concerns alleged insults toward the Indian community. This matter has been forwarded to the Penang prosecution office for potential charges under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act.

Meanwhile, Tamim is under investigation for the alleged desecration of a sacred Hindu ‘soolam’ at an old temple in Langkawi. The case has been referred to the Kedah prosecution office for potential charges under Section 295 of the Penal Code.

“Charges will be filed once both individuals are traced and brought back to the country,” Mohd Khalid said, emphasising that the police remain committed to upholding public order and will not tolerate acts that threaten safety.
