Johor Reports 33 Tuberculosis Cases In Kota Tinggi Cluster

Date:

The Johor State Health Department has confirmed 33 cases of tuberculosis (TB) in Kota Tinggi, all traced to a single cluster identified on 25 January.

According to a statement released yesterday, active screening of 804 close contacts has so far identified 33 patients, all of whom are undergoing treatment and are being closely monitored at nearby health facilities.

While the cluster has recorded one death, the health department clarified that the fatality was unrelated to tuberculosis.

Authorities are urging residents of Kota Tinggi and surrounding areas to seek medical attention if they experience symptoms of TB or have been in close contact with a confirmed patient.

“Tuberculosis, also known as ‘batuk kering’, is an infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis and spreads through the air to those in close contact. Common symptoms include prolonged coughing, significant weight loss, loss of appetite, night sweats, and coughing up blood. TB is preventable and fully curable through effective treatment, which requires a minimum duration of six months,” the statement added.
