Date:

The Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH) has confirmed 503 new tuberculosis (TB) infections as of Epidemiological Week 5 (EW 5/2026), pushing the cumulative total for the year to 2,571 cases nationwide.

The latest figures highlight Sabah as the state with the highest number of reported infections at 614 cases, accounting for 23.88 per cent of the national tally. Selangor follows with 476 cases (18.51 per cent), while Sarawak recorded 257 cases, representing 10 per cent of the total.

State-By-State Breakdown

Johor registered 233 cases, while the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya reported a combined 202 infections. Penang logged 148 cases, followed by Kedah (144) and Perak (127).

Other affected states include Kelantan with 96 cases, Pahang (81), Terengganu (60), Negeri Sembilan (58) and Melaka (42). Perlis recorded 17 cases, while the Federal Territory of Labuan reported 16.

The Health Ministry said the data reflects ongoing transmission trends and reinforces the need for sustained public health vigilance, particularly as Malaysians prepare for the upcoming festive season and extended holidays, when travel and large gatherings are more common.

Public Advised To Remain Alert

MOH has urged the public to practise proper cough and sneeze etiquette and to wear face masks in crowded settings as precautionary measures. Individuals experiencing prolonged cough, fever, loss of appetite or unexplained weight loss are strongly encouraged to seek screening at the nearest health facility.

The ministry stressed that early detection and responsible health practices are not merely personal precautions but an essential collective duty to safeguard families and communities from infectious diseases.
