An 11-year-old schoolboy was allegedly stabbed multiple times by a classmate wielding a pair of scissors during a classroom activity at a private school in Lampang, Thailand.
The incident reportedly occurred on 10 July, leaving the victim with injuries to his hand and leg that required 16 stitches after he lost a significant amount of blood.
Speaking to Channel 8, the injured boy’s mother claimed the family of the alleged attacker had not contacted her or accepted responsibility following the incident.
According to the victim, the class had been divided into groups for an assignment when he wrote the other student’s name on a behaviour report because the classmate was talking loudly, refusing to participate and failing to help complete the group’s task.
The boy alleged that his classmate then approached him carrying a pair of scissors before repeatedly stabbing him in the thigh and hand while allegedly threatening to kill him.
His mother said her son is an active school football player who has won several competitions, but his injuries forced him to miss an important tournament held the following day.
She also claimed that neither the school nor the alleged attacker’s family initially explained what assistance or compensation would be provided after the incident.
Concerned that her son might not receive justice, the mother lodged a police report with Lampang Police Station. She further alleged that the other child’s family was unhappy after learning that the matter had been reported to the authorities.
Following widespread public attention, the school’s principal and government officials visited the injured student and his family.
The school later stated that the alleged attacker’s family had agreed to provide compensation and was cooperating with the school to resolve the matter.
School administrators also announced that they would review classroom safety procedures and reconsider the student behaviour reporting system, acknowledging that the current practice may have contributed to conflicts between pupils.
Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
