A landslide struck a village in Longnan City, Gansu Province, on Monday morning, burying 33 people and triggering a massive rescue operation involving multiple emergency agencies.
According to Chinese state media, the disaster occurred in Rencang Village, Nanhe Town, Dangchang County, where tonnes of earth and debris swept through the area.
As of the latest update, 17 people have been rescued, while 16 others remain trapped beneath the rubble as search-and-rescue efforts continue.
Emergency response teams, including personnel from the emergency management, fire and rescue, medical, police, transport, electricity and telecommunications departments, were immediately deployed to the scene to locate survivors and assist affected residents.
Authorities are also evacuating villagers from high-risk areas and implementing precautionary measures to prevent secondary disasters, amid concerns that unstable ground conditions could trigger further landslides.
Rescue operations remain ongoing as officials race against time to find those still missing.
