A woman is fighting for her life after her husband allegedly attacked her inside a massage parlour in Thailand, strangling her, forcing her to drink toilet cleaner and electrocuting her before allegedly consuming the same chemical himself.
The shocking incident occurred at a health massage parlour in Plutaluang, Sattahip district, Chonburi province. Both the 57-year-old husband, identified as Mr Chalat Khwanjoo, and his 48-year-old wife, Mrs Payao Khwanjoo, who worked as a masseuse at the shop, were rushed to hospital in critical condition.
CCTV footage reviewed by investigators reportedly showed Mr Chalat arriving at the massage parlour carrying a backpack and clothing before meeting his wife. Shortly before the alleged attack, Mrs Payao was seen speaking on the phone with a friend and the shop owner, expressing concern about where she would sleep as two new massage therapists were due to move into the premises. The disturbing case has shocked the local community and highlights the potentially life-threatening nature of domestic violence.
According to the footage, Mrs Payao later walked to the back of the shop, where her husband allegedly followed her before closing the rear door. Police believe he then strangled her until she lost consciousness.
Investigators allege Mr Chalat later locked the front entrance from the inside before returning to continue the assault. He is accused of using electricity to shock his wife and forcing toilet cleaner into her mouth before allegedly drinking the chemical himself.
The attack was discovered after the shop owner, who was monitoring the premises through CCTV, noticed unusual activity and immediately contacted friends and nearby residents for help.
When they arrived, both husband and wife were found lying unconscious inside the shop. Emergency responders and police were called to the scene before both victims were taken to hospital for urgent medical treatment.
Police said both remain in critical condition. Investigators will interview the couple once they are medically fit before deciding on further legal action. The investigation is ongoing.
