Nine Killed As Israeli Air And Drone Strikes Hit Lebanon Amid Ceasefire Tensions

Date:

Nine people were killed and several others injured on Thursday following a series of Israeli airstrikes in eastern and southern Lebanon, despite a renewed ceasefire agreement, according to Anadolu Agency (AA) citing Lebanese media reports.

The National News Agency (NNA) reported that the attack on Sohmor town in western Bekaa resulted in the deaths of five civilians, while four others sustained injuries. Following the incident, local authorities urged residents and visitors to stay away from the area due to serious security risks.

Officials in Sohmor stressed that civilians remain exposed to danger, stating that no group is spared in the ongoing conflict. The warning was issued as tensions continue to escalate across multiple regions in the country.

In southern Lebanon, an Israeli drone strike targeted a motorcycle in Maaroub, Tyre district, killing one person and injuring another. Separate attacks were also reported along the Zefta-Nmeiriyeh road in Marjayoun, where a family consisting of a father, mother and their daughter were injured and taken to hospital in Sidon for treatment.

Another drone strike hit a vehicle along the Zefta-Kfarroumane road in Nabatieh, leaving several people wounded, while an additional attack in Al-Masaken area of Tyre killed three individuals and injured seven others, including children and women.

In a further incident in Sidon district, seven people were injured, among them children and women, after another strike was reported in the area.

The attacks came shortly after Lebanon and Israel agreed to extend a fragile ceasefire and establish a “pilot zone” placing the Lebanese army as the sole authority in designated areas, excluding non-state groups.

The agreement followed a series of US-mediated talks held at the State Department, while ongoing hostilities have continued to claim thousands of lives since March despite previous ceasefire arrangements.
