Brazilian authorities have rescued a 24-year-old woman who was allegedly kidnapped, sexually assaulted and restrained at a residence for five days by her former partner.
Emiliane Tamara Nunes Carvalho, a nursing technician, was reportedly found chained and tied to a bed inside a filthy property in Aguas Lindas de Goias on Friday, according to local reports.
Police officers reportedly forced their way into a bedroom after hearing a woman’s screams. Inside, they found Carvalho visibly distressed and wearing a gas mask, before cutting through the ropes and chains used to restrain her.
The rescue followed a missing-person report filed after Carvalho disappeared on Monday, 17 August. She had reportedly met her former husband, Ailton Rodrigues de Souza, to discuss matters involving their two children.
Authorities allege that the meeting took a violent turn, with Souza assaulting Carvalho before taking her to a concealed location. She was allegedly restrained there and subjected to sexual assault.
Police also alleged that drugs were forced into Carvalho’s body while she was being held captive. The circumstances surrounding the alleged assault and her subsequent confinement remain under investigation.
Footage obtained by Jam Press reportedly showed officers breaking through the bedroom door after responding to the cries for help. The images captured the moment police reached Carvalho and freed her from the restraints.
Carvalho was taken to safety after being discovered, while authorities continued efforts to establish the full circumstances of the alleged kidnapping and identify any further evidence connected to the case.
The incident has drawn attention to the dangers faced by victims of domestic and relationship violence, particularly when an alleged abuser uses isolation and physical restraint to prevent a victim from seeking help.
Souza faces allegations linked to the incident, although the claims against him have not been established in court. The investigation remains ongoing.
