‘Where Are You?’ Dispatcher’s Call Comes Moments After Delivery Rider Killed In Head-On Crash With Bus

Date:

A 59-year-old delivery rider was killed in a devastating collision involving a public bus in the early hours of Saturday morning, with a heartbreaking twist emerging when his dispatcher reportedly called moments after the crash asking about a pending delivery.

Police from Bang Bua Thong Police Station and rescue personnel from the Ruam Katanyu Foundation rushed to the scene at around 1am following reports of a fatal road accident involving a bus and a motorcycle.

The crash occurred outside a department store along Bang Kruai-Sai Noi Road in Bang Bua Thong District, Nonthaburi Province.

When emergency responders arrived, they found the body of the delivery rider, identified only as Mr. Woraphot, lying beside a Route 134 bus operating between Buathong Keha Village and Mochit 2.

His motorcycle had been severely damaged and was wedged beneath the front section of the bus.

In a tragic moment after the accident, the rider’s mobile phone reportedly rang. The caller, believed to be from the delivery dispatch centre, was checking on the status of an order and asking, “Where are you?” before being informed that the rider had died in the crash.

The bus driver, identified as Mr. Nattapol, told investigators that he was returning to the depot when he noticed a motorcycle travelling against the flow of traffic in the right lane.

According to his account, the motorcycle suddenly attempted to cut across towards the left side of the road but collided with a taxi. The impact allegedly caused the rider to lose control and veer back into the path of the oncoming bus, resulting in a head-on collision.

However, witness statements presented a different version of events.

Several witnesses claimed the bus had turned onto Bang Kruai-Sai Noi Road from Kanchanaphisek Road and was travelling behind a taxi before accelerating to overtake it on the right side.

At that same moment, the motorcycle rider was allegedly travelling against traffic, leading to the fatal collision.

Authorities noted that the stretch of road has become notorious for accidents involving motorcycles travelling in the wrong direction in an attempt to access a nearby bridge.

Local accident records indicate that numerous crashes, including several fatal incidents, have occurred at the location under similar circumstances.

Police have summoned the bus driver for further questioning as investigators work to determine the exact sequence of events leading to the tragedy.

The victim’s body has been transferred to the Institute of Forensic Science for a post-mortem examination as part of the ongoing investigation.

The incident has once again highlighted concerns over dangerous wrong-way riding and road safety at one of the area’s known accident hotspots.
