12-Year-Old Killed After Motorcycle Slams Into Lorry In Gurun

Date:

A 12-year-old Year Six pupil was killed after the motorcycle he was riding collided with a lorry along Jalan Gurun-Jeniang near the Batu 3 traffic lights on Thursday.

The crash happened at about 2pm, leaving the boy with severe injuries to his body and thigh. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Form Two student who was riding pillion on the motorcycle escaped with minor scratches to his hands and legs and did not require medical treatment.

Kuala Muda district police chief Assistant Commissioner Hanyan Ramlan said the lorry was travelling slowly and preparing to stop when the accident happened.

“The lorry driver is believed to have moved towards the left slip road after a car in front of him suddenly stopped when the traffic light turned red.

“He then heard a loud impact from behind and discovered that a motorcycle had collided with the rear left side of the lorry,” he said.

Hanyan said one of the motorcycle riders was found trapped near the lorry’s rear left tyre, while the other had fallen onto the road beside the vehicle.

The motorcycle rider was confirmed dead at the scene, while the pillion rider only suffered scratches to his hands and legs.

Initial investigations found that neither of the two boys was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
