A 17-year-old student has been ordered to spend three years at the Henry Gurney School in Melaka after pleading guilty to committing an indecent act against his mother.
Magistrate Mustaqim Sukarno imposed the order after taking into consideration the teenager’s guilty plea and a social report prepared by the Social Welfare Department.
The court also placed the teenager under a three-year good behaviour bond without surety. His parents were instructed to maintain communication with the school for updates on counselling and discipline, as well as visit him at least once a month.
The teenager faced two charges over the incident, which allegedly took place at a house here on June 1.
He was charged under Section 509 of the Penal Code with outraging the modesty of his 43-year-old mother. The offence carries a maximum sentence of five years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both upon conviction.
He also faced a separate charge under Section 377D of the Penal Code for committing an act of gross indecency, which carries a maximum two-year jail sentence.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Shahzleen Ibrahim prosecuted the case, while the teenager was represented by lawyer Tan Song Yan from the National Legal Aid Foundation.
