24-Year-Old Arrested Over Alleged Sexual Assault Of Teenage Girl In Papar

Date:

A 24-year-old local man has been arrested to assist police investigations into allegations that he repeatedly sexually assaulted a 16-year-old girl over several months in Papar.

Papar District Police Chief Superintendent Heryan Mohd Tahir said the teenager lodged a police report on Friday, alleging that the incidents took place on multiple occasions between March and July this year.

Following the report, officers from the Criminal Investigation Division immediately launched an investigation and arrested the suspect in the Kinarut area later that night.

The teenage girl was taken to hospital for a medical examination, while the suspect is expected to be remanded to facilitate further investigations.

Police are continuing to gather evidence by recording witness statements and examining locations believed to be linked to the alleged offences.

Heryan stressed that police treat all sexual offences involving children and minors with the utmost seriousness and will ensure a thorough investigation is carried out.

He urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant by monitoring their children’s activities, including their use of social media, and to immediately report any suspected cases of sexual abuse or exploitation to the authorities.

He also reminded the public to refrain from speculating about the case or revealing any information that could identify the victim, as doing so could interfere with the investigation and violate the victim’s privacy.

The case remains under investigation, and anyone with relevant information is urged to contact the nearest police station or the investigating officer.
