25-Year-Old Man Charged With Murdering His Own Father Over Inheritance Dispute

Date:

An unemployed man was charged in the Magistrate’s Court here on Friday with the murder of his biological father last Saturday.

Iznan Syahir Mohammad Tasnim, 25, dressed in a purple kurta, nodded in acknowledgment as the charge was read before Magistrate S. Arunjothy. However, no plea was recorded as the case falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court.

According to the charge, Iznan is accused of murdering his father, Mohammad Tasnim Nurdin, 62, at an apartment unit in Bandar Seri Permaisuri at 3.01 a.m. on September 13.

He was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment, or imprisonment for a term, upon conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nadia Eleena Jamaluddin Akbal led the prosecution, while the accused was unrepresented. No bail was granted, and the court set December 11 for mention of the case.

Earlier reports stated that dissatisfaction over inheritance matters is believed to have triggered the incident, in which the elderly victim was fatally stabbed by his son at their Bandar Seri Permaisuri apartment in Cheras.

Cheras Deputy Police Chief Superintendent Ridzuan Khalid said the victim was found lying in the living room with stab wounds before his body was sent to the Forensic Unit of Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (HCTM) Cheras for post-mortem.

The suspect, the victim’s son, was arrested and remanded for seven days to assist in investigations.
