2,500 Chickens Sold Out In 30 Minutes At 90 Sen Each In Merbau Patah Frenzy

Date:

A massive crowd turned up at a retail outlet in Merbau Patah where more than 2,500 fresh chickens priced at just 90 sen each were snapped up within 30 minutes on Monday, triggering a wave of public attention over the unusual promotional sale.

The early morning rush saw consumers forming long queues well before dawn, reflecting how aggressively priced essential goods continue to draw strong public interest amid ongoing cost-of-living pressures. Situations like this often highlight the sensitivity of household budgets, particularly when basic food items are offered at heavily discounted rates.

According to the operator, Mohd Sulaimi Hassan, 58, the initiative was introduced as part of a social responsibility effort aimed at easing the financial burden of the community. He noted that although profit was not the main objective, the campaign was designed to provide meaningful relief to customers.

He added that his business, which has been operating for 13 years with multiple outlets across Terengganu, was overwhelmed by the turnout. He also stressed that the level of response demonstrated how demand for essential goods remains extremely strong when prices are made more affordable.

Industry observers often point out that such rapid sell-outs underline a broader economic reality where consumers are highly responsive to discounts on staple food items. In many cases, even small price reductions can significantly influence buying behaviour, especially for larger households.

Customers who attended the sale shared similar sentiments, with many describing the promotion as a rare opportunity to stretch household expenses. Some even arrived shortly after dawn to secure limited quantities, emphasising how important such initiatives are for daily survival needs.

The event has sparked discussions on whether similar community-driven pricing efforts could be expanded in the future, as families continue to navigate rising living costs across Kuala Terengganu and surrounding areas.
