77-Year-Old Driver Injured After Car Crashes Into Pre-War Shops in Penang

A 77-year-old man was injured after losing control of his car, which crashed into two pre-war shop lots in Butterworth, Penang, trapping his legs under the rubble.

The accident occurred around 1:50 PM today at a traffic light junction along Jalan Bagan Luar. The victim, a resident of Raja Uda, Butterworth, has been rushed to Seberang Jaya Hospital for treatment.

The vehicle collided with a barbershop and an optical store, causing a significant collapse of the shopfront structures. Debris from the crash fell onto the car, leaving the scene resembling a disaster zone, with piles of bricks and shattered concrete strewn across the area.

Fire and Rescue Department personnel responded promptly to rescue the driver, while police were dispatched to manage traffic and ensure public safety.

The incident, which occurred on a busy stretch of road, shocked motorists and nearby shopowners. Crowds of onlookers quickly gathered at the scene, with many voicing their concerns and speculating about the cause of the crash.

Authorities are currently carrying out cleanup and investigation efforts.
