A 25-year-old hardware shop worker was charged at the Sessions Court here today with two counts of rape and physical sexual assault involving his 16-year-old biological sister since earlier this year.
The accused pleaded not guilty after both charges were read before Judge Mohd. Zul Zakiqudin Zulkifli.
For the first charge, he is accused of raping his younger sister at a house in the district at about 11pm in January this year.
The offence falls under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code, which carries imprisonment of between eight and 30 years, along with a minimum of 10 strokes of the cane upon conviction.
He is also charged with committing physical sexual assault against the same teenage victim at about 9pm on June 21.
The charge is framed under Section 14(d) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which provides for a maximum jail term of 25 years and a minimum of two strokes of the cane if convicted.
The court accepted the prosecution’s request not to grant bail, citing the need to ensure the safety of the victim, who is the accused’s younger sister.
The case has been fixed for mention on August 2. Prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Asymawi Ghazali.
