Billions of ringgit in funds seized from illicit activities will be channelled back to Malaysians, particularly to strengthen the education and healthcare sectors, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced.
Anwar said the funds involved proceeds that had been confiscated through legal processes and following court decisions.
“Today, I announce that all funds seized from illicit proceeds through legal processes and judicial decisions, amounting to billions of ringgit, will be returned to the people, particularly for education and healthcare,” he said during his 69th National Day address at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) here.
He said the decision reflected the government’s principle that the country’s wealth should ultimately benefit the people rather than be diverted for improper purposes.
Anwar stressed that the government would also continue taking a firm stance against the misuse of national resources through unlawful activities.
He said the country’s wealth must not be allowed to be exploited or enjoyed by individuals or groups through illegal means.
The announcement comes as the government emphasises the need to ensure recovered assets are channelled towards areas that directly benefit Malaysians, with education and healthcare identified as key priorities.
