BMW Driver with History of DUIs Kills Teacher in Hit-and-Run Horror

Date:

A 51-year-old man in Kinmen County, surnamed Zhang, has been arrested after fatally hitting a 45-year-old female kindergarten teacher while driving under the influence, officials reported. The incident occurred on October 17, when Zhang was driving his BMW along the North Ring Road toward Jincheng. He reportedly attempted an illegal overtaking maneuver, colliding with the teacher, who was riding a motorcycle, and also involving a 49-year-old man in a small truck and a 40-year-old woman in a car.

Zhang fled the scene but surrendered to authorities five hours later. Police testing revealed that his blood alcohol level exceeded the legal limit. Investigators also discovered that Zhang has multiple prior DUI offenses, including a conviction five years ago for hitting a motorcyclist while drunk.

The case drew additional attention due to Zhang’s social media history. In 2022, he posted a court summons on Facebook and wrote sarcastically about his previous sentence, ignoring friends’ warnings to stop drinking.

Following his arrest, Zhang has been charged with DUI causing death and hit-and-run resulting in death. Prosecutors requested, and the court granted, his detention without bail.
