Bomb Threat At Mid Valley Southkey Confirmed Fake After Security Sweep

A bomb threat sent via email to a business premises at The Mall Mid Valley Southkey here has been confirmed as a hoax after a bomb disposal team found no explosives during a security sweep.

Johor police chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad said police received information from the shopping centre’s management about the bomb threat email at 11.31pm on Sunday.

Following the report, the Bomb Disposal Unit (UPB) from the Johor contingent police headquarters, assisted by the Johor Bahru Selatan district police headquarters UPB, was deployed to the location.

He said security checks and sweeps were conducted inside and outside the building in cooperation with the premises’ security personnel.

“Several suspicious objects were found and subsequently examined by the UPB team.

“Checks found that the objects did not contain any explosives and no bomb threat was detected,” he said in a statement on Monday.

Ab Rahaman said the affected area was subsequently declared completely safe.

He stressed that Johor police take all threats involving explosives seriously and would continue to respond swiftly to ensure public safety and protect the surrounding environment.

He also urged the public not to speculate or circulate unverified information.

“Any information relating to the incident should be referred to the police to verify its authenticity and prevent confusion among members of the public,” he said.
