Singaporeans visiting recreational attractions in Desaru have been urged to remain vigilant after three Singapore-registered vehicles were allegedly broken into at a waterpark carpark on Sunday.
The warning surfaced on social media after Facebook user Syafiq Maselan said he spotted three vehicles with their side or rear windows smashed on Sept 6.
In a post on the MY SG Road Trip public Facebook group, Syafiq said one of the affected vehicles was parked next to his, another across from his, while the third was in a nearby parking lot.
He said his own vehicle was left untouched despite electronic devices belonging to his children being visible on the back seat.
“Was incredibly lucky that mine was left untouched, especially since there were children’s devices on the back seat,” he said.
Syafiq alleged that the perpetrators appeared to have targeted bags left inside the affected vehicles.
The post prompted other social media users in Singapore to remind visitors to avoid leaving valuables in their vehicles while travelling.
Meanwhile, Adventure Waterpark Desaru Coast said it had immediately strengthened security following what it described as an isolated vehicle break-in.
The park said its security teams had been engaged and it was working with enforcement authorities to investigate the incident.
Additional measures include a stronger security presence and mobile patrols in high-traffic areas, tighter monitoring of designated parking facilities, closer coordination with law enforcement and additional safety signage.
Visitors have also been reminded to ensure their vehicles are locked and valuables are kept out of sight.
The park said large lockers were available for rental and encouraged guests to use them to safeguard their belongings.
District police chief Superintendent Yusof Othman confirmed that three Singaporeans had lodged reports alleging that their vehicles were broken into.
“Investigations are underway to establish the suspects’ whereabouts,” he said.
He added that police had met security teams at hotels around Desaru and urged them to increase monitoring of vehicle parking areas by deploying additional personnel.
Police have also stepped up patrols and checks on suspicious individuals and vehicles at key tourist hotspots, he said.
