Cashier Arrested After CCTV Reveals Repeated Sales Money Theft

A cashier at a business premises in Kea Farm, Brinchang, was caught allegedly taking sales proceeds after the act was recorded on closed-circuit television (CCTV).

Cameron Highlands District Police Chief Superintendent Azri Ramli said the woman was arrested on Saturday following a police report lodged on the same day regarding the incident.

He said initial investigations found that the suspect had allegedly taken money from the business while carrying out her duties at the payment counter.

“Checks on the CCTV footage showed that the woman had taken sales money several times and placed it inside her trouser pocket, resulting in losses amounting to RM300,” he said in a statement on Sunday.

Azri said police also seized RM350 in cash believed to be linked to the case following the suspect’s arrest.

The case is being investigated under Section 408 of the Penal Code, involving criminal breach of trust by an employee.

He said if convicted, the individual could face imprisonment of not less than one year and up to 14 years, whipping, as well as a fine.

Azri added that investigations are still ongoing and urged business operators and members of the public to remain vigilant against any misconduct involving company property or funds.
