Cattle Farmer Pleads Not Guilty After Allegedly Punching Nephew In Face Three Times

Date:

A cattle farmer was charged at the Ayer Keroh Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday with allegedly punching his nephew in the face and causing injuries in an incident three years ago.

The accused, Mohd Makhadzir Khan Zakariah, 55, pleaded not guilty after the charge was read before Magistrate Sharda Shienha Mohd Suleiman.

According to the charge, Mohd Makhadzir allegedly struck his 34-year-old nephew in the face three times.

The incident is said to have taken place at around 1.25pm on January 23, 2023, at Batu 8¼ Air Molek in the Melaka Tengah district.

The alleged assault was reportedly linked to a family dispute.

The charge was framed under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail term of two years, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both upon conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Zaidah Muhamad Zailani proposed bail of RM8,000.

However, lawyer Muhammad Izzuddin Ab Malek, representing the accused, appealed for a lower bail amount, highlighting that his client is a widower and father of three.

The court subsequently allowed Mohd Makhadzir to be released on RM3,000 bail and fixed September 23 for mention of the case.
