China Hospital Under Fire as Surgery Livestream Shows Woman’s Genitals to 50,000 Viewers

Date:

The Affiliated Hospital of Shaanxi University of Chinese Medicine is facing widespread criticism after a livestream of a surgical procedure reportedly exposed a female patient’s genitals to tens of thousands of viewers.

According to Red Star News via HK01, the livestream sparked outrage online and was eventually taken down after users flagged the footage. The hospital later issued an apology on Tuesday (3 Feb) and confirmed that disciplinary action had been taken against the staff involved.

Training Video Broadcast on Public Platform
The incident occurred on Monday (2 Feb) during the hospital’s weekly training session held by the Second Department of Gynaecology. The session, streamed via the hospital’s official WeChat Video Channel, featured a four-minute instructional video demonstrating surgery for Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI).

During the broadcast, the patient was reportedly lying on the operating table with her lower body fully exposed. Reports indicated the livestream drew over 50,000 viewers at its peak.

Public Outcry and Consent Concerns
Online viewers expressed shock and raised serious questions about whether the patient had given consent for the procedure to be shown publicly. Many argued that even if consent was obtained, explicit medical imagery of this nature should never be broadcast on a public platform.

The hospital’s apology came amid mounting pressure from netizens demanding stricter privacy measures for patients during medical demonstrations.
