Couple Behind Year-Long RM100,000 Car Break-In Spree Arrested in Kelantan

Date:

A couple believed to be responsible for a year-long car break-in spree across Kelantan, causing losses exceeding RM100,000, were arrested by police on Saturday.

Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said the suspects, aged 36 and 47, were detained by a Criminal Investigation Department team in front of a 7-Eleven store at Jalan Sri Cemerlang.

Their arrest followed a window-smashing incident that occurred at 6.10pm the same day in the parking area of Eco Supermarket, Jalan Wakaf Mek Zainab, resulting in RM1,500 worth of damages.

Police seized multiple items including: A mobile phone, tablet, laptop, seven bags, 3 bank cards, a Perodua Bezza car, and a spanner and ring.

Investigations revealed that the couple had been actively breaking into vehicles for the past year, targeting parking lots without CCTV to avoid detection. The male suspect also admitted to training new recruits, Mohd Yusoff said at a press conference.

Further checks showed the man had three prior drug-related offences and a criminal record, while his partner had no previous offences. Both suspects tested positive for methamphetamine. They have been placed under a four-day remand, with the case investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code (theft).
