Courier Lorry Driver Dies After Being Pinned Inside Wreckage

A courier lorry driver was killed after becoming trapped in his vehicle following a road accident near the Simpang Ampat Toll Plaza on the North-South Expressway (PLUS) on Thursday.

The crash, which occurred at about 4pm, also caused a traffic congestion stretching nearly three kilometres along the affected route.

The victim, a 40-year-old Malay man, suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Melaka Fire and Rescue Department public relations officer Mohd Hafidzatullah Rashid said the department received an emergency call at 4.04pm before firefighters from the Alor Gajah and Ayer Keroh Fire and Rescue Stations were dispatched to the location.

Upon arrival, the operation team found the accident involved a three-tonne Isuzu lorry, with the driver trapped inside the vehicle.

Firefighters used rescue equipment to extricate the victim before he was confirmed dead at the scene by personnel from the Ministry of Health.

The operation, which was carried out with the assistance of the police and Health Ministry personnel, was completed at 5.55pm.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident.
