A customer’s appetite was reportedly ruined after she claimed to have spotted several cockroaches crawling inside a food container while dining at a barbecue restaurant on Tuesday.
The incident was shared on Threads by user @aqilahmaria_, who uploaded a video appearing to show several insects believed to be cockroaches inside a container holding raw meat placed near a tray of prawns.
According to the woman, the discovery left her traumatised and prompted her to remind others to check their food before eating.
“Yesterday’s incident. I’m seriously traumatised! I was hungry and then saw this. Check your food before eating,” she wrote.
The post quickly drew reactions from netizens, with many expressing disgust and raising concerns about the restaurant’s hygiene standards.
One user, @chaagxafiyya, said she had recently taken her mother to the same restaurant and praised the food before learning about the alleged incident.
“I just brought my mum here to eat, and she said the food was really good. If she knew about this, she would probably feel sick,” the user commented.
Another user, @aajdanick, questioned the cleanliness of the restaurant’s kitchen, saying dining out and enjoying barbecue food was appealing but incidents like this raised concerns over hygiene.
Meanwhile, @eykaanabielaa suggested that the matter be reported to the Health Ministry (MOH) so that an inspection could be carried out and appropriate action taken if necessary.
The shopping centre management subsequently responded in the comments, saying it took food safety and hygiene issues at the premises seriously.
According to the management, its operations team went to the location shortly after receiving the complaint and carried out an inspection together with the restaurant’s management. Further action is now being taken.
The management also assured visitors that it would continue monitoring the matter to ensure hygiene standards were maintained for the safety and comfort of customers.
The alleged presence of cockroaches has yet to be independently verified, while details of any enforcement action have not been disclosed.
